Who are my kids.....

I plan to print my blog one day very soon. This blog will be the last page of my segment. I want to remeber these things about each kid, so I have blogged it to keep it in print forever. I hope to look back at it in 10 years and laugh about what has changed and what has stayed the same!!
Ben: Ben is smart, sensitive, loud when he is in his comfort zone and silent when he is not. Ben sees black and white, no grey. Ben follows all the rules. Ben wants everything he sees and is always on the hunt for the next new thing. When Ben makes a friend, they are a friend forever....he will remember them till he is 75 - even if he only knows them for a short while.

He cares what his hair looks like and thinks stuffed animals are cute! He is scared to try anything new, but if pushed....he will actually become one of the best in his group at the activity or sport. It takes Ben 45 min to warm up to anything new....and that happens usually about 10 minutes before it is time to leave!

Ben needs sleep more than my other kids. Ben needs food more than the other kids. Ben is affected by the weather. Ben is better at the computer than I am and would be on the web all day if I would let him.

Ben never forgets anything. He is the worst sick person on the planet - thank goodness is does not get sick very often. Ben loves to be a big boy...He is my helper, my confidant....and most days I can't imagine how I would make it without him!

Ben's favorite toy has been webkinz for over a year now. Ben is a collector of things. He loves the hunt for the next item in his collection. Ben has a very hard time making decisions. But when he does decide something is good - it is GREAT. Ben has an unusual amount of determination for his age.

Ben loves his mommy more than all the webkinz in the world (his words). He truly can look at me and say I love you with so much heart that it brings tears to my eyes.

Kyle: Kyle is silly most all the time. Kyle is secretly smart, but don't tell him I told you or he will do something "stupid" just to prove me wrong. Kyle is also sensitive. He cries when people are mean to him, but a double ear infection won't phase him. Kyle is friends with anyone, but 10 min after we leave them...he will have trouble remembering their name! Kyles attention to detail when he is doing something he likes - is amazing!

Kyle would honestly lose his head if it were not attached. I mean...really lose it. He can never find anything and can't EVER remember where he put something. But at the same time - KYle is a thinker. He always sees both sides of a situation and he takes in EVERYTHING he sees and hears. He can recall situations very easily - just can't find his blanket - EVER!

Kyle is the video game master. He can beat 12 year olds. Kyle is Josh's best friend. He loves being sweet to smaller children and loves playing with any age kid. Anyone is a potential friend for Kyle and he loves anyone that will play with him. Kyle will play what anyone else wants without question. He is extremely adaptable in any situation. Kyles best friends, however, will be his best friends for life. He will talk about them every day!

Kyle is happy with anything. A new stick or a rock are just as exciting as a new toy. And a thing of bubbles is just as monumental as a hundred dollar star wars leggo set. If he is allowed to pic out any toy he wants...and there is nothing he loves - he will go home with nothing and wait till the next time.

Kyle is not the first to try anything - but once he has studied it...and he finally is comfortable with his knowledge of the situation - he amazes us when he does not even need practice to to do it. From walking to riding a bike and scooter, to swimming....it has all been like this. Refusal to do it...then "do" it.....no falling, drowning, or faltering! Makes us laugh!

Kyle is rough, and often goes to far with his crazy kyle routine. But when he is calm and he hugs you - it is the best hug ever. Kyle loves his brothers - all the time. His feelings get so hurt when they are mean to him. And he is there to help them whenever they need it!

Will is unfiltered. He says whatever is on his mind. Some days that is great and some days I want to crawl under a rock and die when he uses his mouth too freely in public.

Will is an individual - he does not care what anyone else thinks or does - he does what he likes.

Wills attention span can be very long when it comes to art and music - but for anything else - he has no attention AT ALL. Will needs a nap every day or the angry beast comes to stay all afternoon! He needs, and has ALWAYS needed - his beauty rest!

Will loves his brothers so much and he loves when they pay him attention. He is a good little brother. It is only recently that he has learned to play with someone smaller than him and I see such growth in this area. He is really falling well into his big brother roll.

He tells long stories all the time and they most often don't make a whole lot of sense. Will draws all the time. With anything that he can find that writes.

Will only knows his colors in Spanish and he is always dirty!

He is a schmoozer - he if has done wrong and in fear of getting in trouble he will hold my face and kiss me and say "mommy...you are so beautiful"! And he truly hopes that his fake kindness will set him free!

Will is sensitive about food and clothes just like Ben. Will has a hard time making up his mind - just like Ben. When I ask Will a question, I wait till he has given me three answers before I take it as the real answer. Will loves his Bah and he loves to take pictures of anything - especially BAH!

Will loves puzzles and anything you can sit and play with and create. He is a wiz and can excel in this area far beyond his peers. But if you ask him "Will ...what is this number?"....you may get "x" or "b" for an answer?! ha ha ha

when will is good...he is VERY good and when he is bad - LOOK OUT!

Josh is sensitive. He scares easily. If he falls off the couch, he will cry with heart beating so fast - not because he is hurt, but because he is scared to death. But he truly desires to be brave. And if he can be brave - without falling - he is in 7th heaven!

Josh is obedient. He is a good listener and wants to please. but often, if he does not like no for an answer - he will wait till you leave the room and do it again?! And when we catch him...he will burst into tears as if his last days are upon him! Josh loves to smile, laugh and be silly. He love being happy! I mean...we all do, but that little man has a tremendous zest for life and for fun!

Josh is loving. He will hug and kiss all of us randomly with a huge smile! He is a follower. He will even watch Will eat a banana and try to take bites the same way Will does. He is always looking at his brothers and studying them. He truly wants to be like each one of them - all the time!

Josh loves music. If he is in a funk and you put on a song...any song...he will come right out of his shell and start dancing! He tries to sing all the words to any song. And instruments are his favorite toys! Josh is smart. He can do things that not many us two year olds can do. It amazes us every day.

JOsh knows his name, but if I call him song song...his Chinese name...he gets a huge kick out of it and will laugh so hard. His laugh is contagious. His eyes disappear when he is really laughing! He goes like the energizer bunny! Full steam ahead and never seems to tire. He can do tennis, the park, baseball and family pizza night....all without a stroller or a nap!

Josh's favorite place to be is outside and I think he was even that way in the SWI in China. We have so much to learn about josh, but we know so much in such a short time. And that tells me that Josh is an adaptable person. That will serve him well in life!

A day at the docks!

As summer time approaches...mommy is much more fun! I love being outdoors and exploring. I am a bit like Ben though - I don't like to be cold? REALLY DON'T LIKE IT? So our first good day in a few weeks...was spent at the fishing dock - right near the entrance to the state park here on the island. We enjoyed ourselves so much!

The crazy month of February!

In between painting and trying to do fun things with the kids - somehow...February just flew by for me! :) I can't believe it is almost March! Here are some pics of the things that kept us crazy busy this month! I have no pics of Kyles last basketball game? What a terrible mom I am - no camera - forgot it at home? But he did great and he got the most improved player on the team. Amazing what one season can do! They are both just loving Basketball and sad that the season is over!

And the auction that I have been sanding, stripping, painting, etc. etc.....for....starts today. So as of 10:30 today - all my things will be dropped off and I will be done with this project! Whoo hooo. I have to admit that I am a bit sad? I really wish I had the time to keep on painting. It gets easier as I have learned to work with a new canvass....WOOD. Pottery is much more forgiving and so this has been a unique learning experience for me. But now that I know the ins and outs...I kind of wish I had another week. But let me promise you that my family is glad it is over! ha haha...maybe I can actually go to the grocery store...and clean the bathrooms? Nah...isn't there one more thing to paint in this house!!

Oh...and Josh has refused the highchair for the past two weeks and so I retired it to the garage. I am giving it to our baby sitter for her new little one. The table is a bit big for him, but his love of being like the other boys...far outweighs that struggle! Here are some pics!

He Jumped!!! He Jumped!!

Just to start, let me explain the jumping...

Any time I need to give my kids any kind of medicine, clip their fingernails, wet their hair, get out a splinter....anything that I need to do in the kitchen or bathroom that requires any detailed care....we sit on the counter to do it. And at the end, we have a game that when you are finished, you can stand up on the counter and jump to me... to get down.

Ben, Kyle and Will can't wait to jump and it kind of takes the edge of whatever we are doing that is "less than fun".

And when I say they jump....even Kyle...will fly off the counter with no fear in the world that they would not be swooped right up by the mommy! I say even Kyle because - truly - it won't be long till I can't catch him anymore and I hope like heck we don't find that out the hard way!! :) ha ha ha

Now Josh is constantly sick. Runny nose, and cough. Nothing that keeps him down, but always needs some kind of cold medicine, or his nose "sucked" out ...or that crazy hair of his completely doused with water so he does not scare the other children at the Y daycare! So we spend much time on the kitchen counter.

And ever time....I stand him up and say...Jump Joshee...... And nothing...he smiles....squats down...stands up...wants to jump - but fear takes over and he just can't let himself go. And so we do a pretend jump and he gets the same fun in the end as the other boys. I had secretly hoped that one day he would trust me enough to jump - just fly into my arms. But i also realized that his a daredevil - when he is in control. He will climb rock walls at the park, the monkey bars, etc. etc. But that is only when "he" is in control of his movement. When it comes to trusting other -maybe he would always be timid that way!

So...I am sure you know where this is going....the other night I gave him his medicine before bed...stood him up and without even thinking....that little man just flew off the counter. It caught me off guard....I swear I almost missed him. So I stood him up there again just to make sure he didn't fall forward and do it by accident. And sure enough...he lept off the counter with the biggest smile on his face that I have ever seen! He trust me. Enough to fly off the counter! Oh my...what a feeling that was for both of us! Great day in Joshee land!

And so I'll take a min to brag on Josh and the great last week that he has had! You can stop reading if you like now....story is over...now I am just a mom...talkin' up her kid!! :)

I'll tell ya - everything about Josh has been changing in the past week. Not "who" he is...but how he acts. He gets his own toys and plays with them - he turns off the TV when we leave the house, he gets his own shoes and socks on if I just ask one time. He speaks to me when he wants something and there is not hint of frustration in his voice anymore. He knows that his words create action and his English is just flying out! He runs into the Y daycare each day and then remembers he didn't kiss me so he flys back across the room into my arms and lays a huge kiss on my lips.

He eats without even trying to throw up - he has given up all need for control in this area. He eats happily while he smiles and sings to us. When I say no, he smiles and walks away. No crying - no frustration?! Amazing.

He can truly run...and he is darn fast! His little muscles are growing and he seems to normal in the physical realm - so normal! Those people with me in China can attest to how very weak he was when I first got him. Kind of scary weak? I knew that time would change that...but scared me none the less!

His has totally out grown his 18 month clothes and needs a 2T for length and his pants always are falling off. Just like Ben and Will at his age. He is 25th percentile for height and 5th for weight! (he was not on the charts for either the day we got back from China!)

So that is that - life is truly just feeling more and more normal as the days roll on. I still have a two year old that will truly hang from the light fixtures if he is not supervised....but that is NORMAL and GOOD! I can DEAL with that - no problem!! :)

Ok...my update for the day! Back to normal family blogs next time and I am sorry to go on and on. I want to always remember these huge breakthroughs in our new world with Josh and so I share them with you so that I can always remember!!

Valentines day fun and some other random stuff!

Not much new going on here - very busy with some volunteer work and sports and parties etc. But nothing out of the box - just normal life! Feels good to say that!! :) Here are so shots of the last week! Pics are just not that great - but they retrace our steps...and so that will have to do! Made me realize I need some good professional shots of the boys soon!!!

This is Josh at Will's Valentines Day party! It was his third party of the day and he was still eating candy and cupcakes like he has never eaten in his life!!

Will and his best buddy Jo Jo. The teacher handed out her valentine to the kids. It was a big red bucket with a lid. She said "ok class...now let's pass out the valentines we brought for each other and don't open this bucket till you get home today!" .....yeah....was she kidding? Will is more type A than anyone i know. He could not function without knowing what was in that bucket. So from that point on...he just sad there staring at the lid...wondering what was in it....hoping it was all the things he loved......and I am not sure he even noticed the other 15 valentines that came his way!!

This is Ben's party. Miss Heather (a friend of mine) watched the NON 1st graders on one side of the room while I helped with the kids on the other side of the room having the party! They all had a super time! Ben's teacher had valentines for all the siblings too and she even had extra art projects for them to do! She is truly a super lady and teacher!

Josh had a cupcake at Ben's party. The entire class watched Josh eat it and the kids laughed so hard! Be was so proud of his brothers funny mess!! He even helped me clean up the Josh man when he was finished!

Ben and his best buddy - Mrs. Jones! He truly loves her and she loves him! What a pair! We will miss her next year!

This is Josh in Kyle's classroom - at Kyles valentines day party - the first party of the day and the first cupcake of the day!
Josh loves Kyle and Kyle loves Josh....he let Josh pull up a chair and eat lunch with him!

Last Friday we made a fire in the pit out back. Josh had obviously seen fire before because he ran over to it and rubbed his hands together - as if to keep them warm. And then pulled up his shirt to warm his belly! So funny the things we do now know about him!! :)

Watching Daddy make the fire was hours of fun (oh...I mean minutes...it didn't take hours to get a fire going....hmmm...or did it?!?!)

Josh squirted my Bath and body works bath gel in the tub when I was not looking. When I turned around...there were bubbles up to his eyeballs. He had such fun! Will even got naked and joined in...but he is taller...and parts were showing...so I won't post those pics!!

If anyone sits on the "kiddie" couch...Josh sits beside them. It used to make everyone so mad...but at this point...it is EVERY time. I think the other boys are just used to it. If you sit on the sun couch...you sit with Josh....and it has not stopped them from sitting on the couch! Looks good for family bonding huh?!?! :)
